U.S. Election Offers Chance to "Start from Scratch", End the Reign of Imperial Geopolitics
By Harley Schlangerby Harley Schlanger
The vacuous nature of the "analysis" provided by pundits in their election post-mortems plunged to new lows following the 2024 Trump-Harris election, leading to an inescapable conclusion: the political culture in the U.S. is broken, reflecting the dysfunctional status of the collapsing empire which created it. The polarization which characterized the campaign remains the dominant feature in analysis of "what went wrong with the Harris campaign", and is, if anything, more nasty than the barbs launched by the two campaigns. The hysteria over Trump's near-landslide victory has not yet peaked!
From the anti-Trumpers in both parties, there are warnings that the President-Elect's first appointments, if confirmed, are a threat to national security, as they include "under-qualified, Putin-loving, culture warriors," committed to a total disruption of politics-as-usual, orchestrated by the unpredictable victor himself, who is allegedly bent on revenge for the unfair treatment he received following his unexpected win in 2016!
They paint an apocalyptic vision, with a special focus on the danger explicit in the appointment of advocates of endless wars, especially those who support Benjamin Netanyahu's Greater Israel fantasy. This includes U.S. defenders of extremists in Bibi's government dedicated to the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from Israel, such as U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik, who equates every criticism of Israel as malicious anti-Semitism, and has been tapped to serve as Ambassador to the U.N.; former Governor of Arkansas Mike Huckaby, a Christian Zionist who favors further expansion of Jewish settlements into territory illegally occupied by Israel; and a group of anti-Iran War Hawks, such as Brian Hook, appointed to head of the State Department Transition team, and Rep. Michael Waltz, chosen as National Security Adviser, both of whom are backers of "maximum pressure" against Iran.
There is good reason to be wary of such appointments, including that of Marco Rubio as Secretary of State, and Pete Hegseth as Defense Secretary. Stefanik made a name for herself in Congressional hearings last Spring by bullying university presidents over charges that they did not rapidly deploy police to crush campus demonstrations against Israeli genocide, accusing them of fostering a climate of anti-Semitism reminiscent of Nazi Germany (1.). Stefanik played a key role in introducing legislation to censor freedom of the press and stifle free speech.
Such appointments do raise the question of whether Trump intends to fulfill his pledge to end ongoing wars, in Ukraine and in southwest Asia, and not initiate new ones. Yet to those fulminating against Trump as a dangerous "authoritarian", claiming he has lied about his commitment to peace, it is fair to ask, why have they supported Biden's fighting a war to the last Ukrainian against Russia, which threatens to escalate to a nuclear war; and what are they doing to end the Biden-Harris-Blinken complicity in genocide against Palestinians?
HYPOCRITE, THY NAME IS BLINKEN
That the blitz of condemnation of Trump's first picks is coming from the very neo-conservative war hawks who have been apologists for the Collective Biden's wars shows the hypocrisy in their expressions of concern over the incoming Trump administration (2.). The poster boy for this is Secretary of State Tony Blinken, who blatantly lied to Congress when he stated, “We do not currently assess that the Israeli government is prohibiting or otherwise restricting” humanitarian aid to Gaza, even though two agencies of the State Department had delivered to him reports detailing Israel's blatant violations of U.S. law. Had he honestly reported on those findings, military and financial aid to Israel would have been cut off.
When the leaking of these documents exposed his lie, he drafted a letter with Defense Secretary Austin, giving Israel thirty days to comply with the law. Thirty days later, Israel has not only failed to adopt these measures, but is escalating the attacks on defenseless civilian populations in Gaza. Blinken has been silent about this, and his hypocrisy is ignored by the mainstream media. For the most part, the "humanitarian hawks" around Blinken, as they call themselves, are given a pass by those savaging Trump.
THE COLLAPSE OF THE EMPIRE
The coverup of the crimes of the imperial War Hawks has changed little, despite heroic efforts by Seymour Hersh and Daniel Ellsberg to expose the lies of the U.S. involvement in Vietnam more than 50 years ago; Julian Assange, who was persecuted for exposing crimes of the U.S.-NATO military assault in Afghanistan and Southwest Asia under the guise of the "War on Terror," and Lyndon LaRouche, who was targeted by the City of London establishment and their stooge, Henry Kissinger, for his decades-long camapign against the crimes of the Anglo-American empire. The result of this coverup is that even as there has been growing opposition to Permanent War among the U.S. population, most are clueless when it comes to the deeper reality: That the price to maintain a Unipolar Order based on imperial geopolitical doctrine is too high to pay, and is resulting in a collapse of the globalist empire it sustains.
There is growing awareness that the diversion of hundreds of billions of dollars to the corporate conglomerates of the Military-Industrial-Financial complex for war, away from the requirements of upgrading the physical economy of the U.S., did factor into the support for Trump, especially from traditional Democrats. However, trapped by the accepted narratives cranked out by politicians and media, the overall cluelessness has blocked the emergence of a solution.
This is now changing, as there are several notable exceptions to this long-term suppression of real debate. One was presented in a November 8 interview with retired Col. Douglas Macgregor, who spoke of the kind of profound re-thinking of policy needed in the aftermath of the U.S. presidential election. “People don’t think these things through,” Macgregor exclaimed. “We’ve got to give up the whole idea of sanctioning, bullying and threatening. We’ve got to get out a clean sheet of paper and start from scratch.” Macgregor, who served briefly as a senior adviser to the Secretary of Defense in Trump’s first term in office, pointed to “the financial crisis looming over the horizon” as a crisis that may help the U.S. to do just that.
Macgregor is right. But what shall be written on that blank page? What is the content of the policy needed to replace the sanctioning, bullying and threatening, a policy that will eliminate forever the danger of a thermonuclear war with Russia and/or China, by removing the cause of the policies creating that danger?
In her weekly webcast, Helga Zepp-LaRouche took up that question, underscoring that “the challenge of our time” is for the United States and Europe “to cooperate with the BRICS countries in the development of the Global South.” She explained that “the world stage has changed dramatically since Trump left the White House four years ago, and now the existence of a Global Majority in the form of the BRICS is a new strategic reality, which I think no President of the United States, nor the head of government of any country can ignore.”
Zepp-LaRouche has been building a movement for years to put the creation of a new strategic and development architecture on the agenda of the Trump administration. Recent events, such as the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia and the Valdai Discussion Club, were used by President Putin to detail his "Eurasian perspective" as a counter to geopolitical provocations. Putin explicitly stated that Russia's partners in this new strategic geometry in the BRICS and the Global South would welcome cooperation from the U.S. and the nations of Europe, on the basis of the recognition of the sovereign rights to development of all nations. The International Peace Coalition initiated by Zepp-LaRouche has convened weekly for 75 weeks, to bring in officials from politics, governments and the military and intelligence communities from more than forty nations, to achieve this goal of peace through development. The potential for the success of such initiatives will be the theme of the upcoming online conference of the Schiller Institute, "In the Spirit of Schiller and Beethoven: All Men Become Brethern", on December 7-8.
