Don’t Allow Congress to Surrender Our Sovereignty on the 250th Anniversary of the United States!

As the United States approaches the 250th anniversary of our independence from British colonialism, the world could not be any closer to the prospect of a nuclear armageddon, whether provoked in Iran and broader Southwest Asia, or the NATO-Russia theater nominally based in Ukraine. Either theater can blow up at any moment, yet the attention being paid by the U.S. citizenry is sorely lacking.
This Fourth of July, treason against America has a name.
Two hundred and fifty years after our Declaration of Independence, the United States is now in the midst of officially renouncing its own sovereignty, as the Congress mobilizes, after its present recess, to vote on the 2027 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA.) The bill calls for an unprecedented budget of $1.5 trillion in annual military resources. President Donald Trump had campaigned in 2024 to reduce the nearly $1 trillion annual “defense budget” by as much as 50%, and instead has proposed to raise it 50%—a $1 trillion swing in the opposite direction than what he claimed he would do.
But there is also a most treasonous aspect to this “defense” proposal. The American people are not being told anything about it by a White House that prefers to stage Fourth of July cage fights for its citizens, rather than wrestle with real ideas regarding war, peace and human progress. Section 219 (formerly Section 224) of the NDAA would merge U.S. military technology and intelligence with that of a foreign country, Israel, at the most advanced levels. As journalist Brandon Weichert reported,
“This is a fusing of the US and Israeli defense and technology innovation bases, and once those things are together… once those things become one, you can’t disentangle those two things… Ultimately, the Israelis know that, in the long run, they cannot rely on foreign aid as it is currently structured coming to them, because the next generation is rising in both parties and both sides are skeptical of Israel.”
In essence, the nation’s own military establishment would be embedded with that of another, creating circumstances in which foreign officers and military planners would influence decisions concerning the use of military force by the United States. Call it the “Jonathan Pollard U.S.-Israel War Technology Cooperation Initiative” after the American spy and traitor who now lives in Israel and has called for Israel to use nuclear weapons against Iran.
As the blowback against Israel’s crimes against humanity grows internationally, Section 219 attempts to resolve that problem for Netanyahu’s stuttering “Greater Sparta” project. It would create permanent structures within the government which would make it exceedingly difficult for any kind of Congressional oversight or Presidential authority to limit military sharing or aid to Israel—a country that has been charged, including by United Nations agencies, with committing genocide against the Palestinian people for nearly four years—and is now currently doing the same to Lebanon. Perhaps as many as 800,000 Palestinians, including children, journalists, doctors, surgeons, and other civilian personnel have been murdered in both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
Former Congressman Dennis Kucinich, a consistent opponent of the post-9/11 endless wars of aggression launched by George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and others, is one of the few former legislators that has called attention to this matter, and has advocated for citizen action to prevent the section from being adopted. In one of his four articles addressing the matter of Section 219, Kucinich quoted from one of the grievances listed in the Declaration of Independence:
“Let us be reminded by Thomas Jefferson’s July 4, 1776 characterization of George III, King of Great Britain: “He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power. He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws….”
Kucinich concluded, “Our forefathers did not fight for freedom and for independence at Lexington and Concord, Bunker Hill, Trenton, Saratoga, and Yorktown, nor sacrifice American blood and treasure in battles in World War I and World War II to arrive at July 4, 2026, having willingly forfeited our sovereignty to a foreign nation, losing control of our future and putting in doubt “our lives, our fortunes, our sacred honor.”
The people of the United States, today, must be stirred to action in a similar vein. As he completed his second and final term as President, the former Commander of the Continental Army, George Washington, had said in his Farewell Address, that the United States must protect itself from foreign attachments which would lead to foreign conflicts not of its own choosing. Instead, he advised that the United States should “Observe good faith and justice towards all Nations.…It will be worthy of a free, enlightened, and at no distant period a great Nation to give to mankind the magnanimous and too novel example of a people always guided by an exalted justice and benevolence.”
Let us not party and sleep through section 219–this new threat to subjugate our nation under a “new world order” of surveillance, war and poverty. Let us renew our commitment to Washington’s idea, today, and make it our standard as we fight to preserve 250 years of the United States as a sovereign nation.
