The deadly belief in geopolitics—the backwards, imperial view which views human beings as clever beasts to be culled and herded—must be abandoned before it drives the world to the point of no return. In her international webcast on May 6, Helga Zepp-LaRouche gave one proof of the failure of geopolitics: the several decades of interventionist wars launched by the United States, Great Britain, and other nations in Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Ukraine, and now Iran. She posed that a new, higher idea governing the relations of different countries be put on the table: “ I think it’s an urgent need to start seriously the discussion about the new security and development
architecture, which we have been talking about since the beginning of the Ukraine war four years ago.”

Nothing, other than that conception—a new security and development architecture, premised on the idea that all members of humanity are created equal, and have the right, not only to political liberty, but also human dignity in the form of economic development, high living standards, and an advanced education—can resolve the multiple crises facing us right now. There are those who are like-minded, such as Russia, China, and the BRICS+ nations, and who put forward their own proposals largely based on a cooperative, non-imperial, non-geopolitical approach. For example, after meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said that China supports “a regional framework for peace and security led by the countries of the region, based on shared participation, mutual interests, and common development.”

While worldwide economic shocks grow by the hour as a result of the illegal U.S.-Israeli war launched against Iran, including shutdowns of vital flows of oil, gas, fertilizers, and other commodities which flow through the Gulf, a real framework for peace should be discussed, based on Lyndon LaRouche’s Oasis Plan proposal for all of Southwest Asia and North Africa to be developed with fresh sources of water, power, agriculture, and industry.

This idea must also be reintroduced into the broader conscience of the people of the United States, a nation once committed to the idea that strength comes from progress and scientific advancement based on improved technology for the nations of the world. Will we act in solidarity with the British Empire, whose predatory, imperial King was proudly welcomed by the President and the U.S. Congress, or, in fulfillment of the mission of the American Revolution 250 year ago, will we build a community of principle with other nations, a world which is absent of wars, sanctions, and economic threats, and free from the threat of thermonuclear extinction?
