Smashing Defeat for Trump and the Republicans—but Whose Loss Is It Really?

President Trump couldn't explain away the largest Republican midterm defeat in a generation.

Nov. 4, 2026 (EIRNS)—The Nov. 3 U.S. midterm elections delivered a shocking blow to the Trump administration and its Republican Party. Many have called this the largest midterm defeat in a generation—far surpassing the usual partisan swings in American politics. Deep red (i.e., Republican) states like Texas, South Carolina, and Kansas even saw certain Democrat victories for the first time this century. Republicans across the board, including President Trump and Vice President Vance, have been forced to admit that voters rejected their agenda.

But it would be the height of shallowness to assume that this is some sort of “blue wave” (i.e., Democratic). In reality, this was a passionate vote against the policies of war and arrogance—just as the 2024 election was. And the two-year flip-flop between the nominal partisans that find themselves in office is merely evidence that the American public is alive and furious, and not content with another batch of fraudulent leaders.

The Democrats, though the victors, are largely unaware of the tide upon which they are rising.

Tellingly, in the seat of the old paradigm, signals went out immediately as part of an effort to shape this rapidly changing process and bring it into conformity with the imperial policies of war and geopolitics. The London Telegraph published an article calling on Trump to hurry up and bomb Iran, in the next 48 hours, lest he lose the opportunity to finish the job. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, who has similarly suffered a significant defeat in the recent Israeli elections and is himself short on time, is reportedly using all means available to drag the U.S. back into full-blown war against Iran. The New York Times is claiming that Netanyahu’s faction in Israel is attempting to persuade the White House that Iran is developing chemical weapons and may be planning to attack the U.S.

Meanwhile in Europe, military exercises of the “Coalition of the Willing” will begin on Nov. 9 to rehearse European military engagement in Ukraine if a ceasefire is ever agreed upon. It is being led by the UK and France, reportedly with the involvement of 10 other nations and 2,000 of their troops. “This isn’t a hypothetical plan, it’s a real force, ready to help Ukraine once the fighting stops,” UK Defense Secretary Wes Streeting said of the exercises. Sky News reports that if the “Multinational Force-Ukraine” is ever given the green light to deploy into Ukraine, British troops will be authorized to fire back at Russian forces if attacked. These factions would like nothing better than to see the incoming Democratic majority fully embrace a renewed war against Russia in Ukraine.

What must be understood is that the Nov. 3 elections are part of a global process currently spreading across the world—from France to Spain, and from Brazil to Israel. While different in its individual aspects, the common denominator is the same: A rejection of a dying imperial system that has maintained such blatant disregard for citizens’ well-being. There is no amount of rhetoric or money from billionaires that will silence that.

Perhaps the most strategically important opportunity to address this, is the potential upcoming trilateral summit between Presidents Donald Trump, Xi Jinping, and Vladimir Putin at the November 18–19, 2026, APEC Meeting in Shenzhen, China. There, the leaders of the U.S., China, and Russia could initiate a much-needed dialogue to address key problems in the world—exactly the kind of dialogue which the war hawks in London, Paris, and Wall Street would prefer never occurs.

Will the Democrats, in their new electoral majority, act to sabotage this potential pathway toward peace? What will you do now to bring this potential into reality, and to shape this period of tumult and revolt into meaningful change? The Sare for President campaign is the voice of the needed international policy in the U.S. political arena; and this Friday’s meeting of the IPC – which has organized for months for Pope Leo to help convoke the kind of tripartite summit of Putin, Xi and Trump that is now scheduled for the APEC meeting – is the rallying point for all international forces to join together to construct a common future of peace and development for humanity.
