The Concept of Victory

Last week was one of the most “event-filled” in current history since the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991. We are simultaneously on the verge of extinction, in a strategic situation worse than the Cuban Missile Crisis, and on the verge of a new, just world economic order, should forces in the trans-Atlantic world successively mobilize to stop the madness.

No one in the United States, however, is allowed to know this; it is kept from the American people. That is done in the same way that the American people are being kept from commemorating the Victory Against Fascism of World War II, on what used to be called V-E (Victory in Europe) Day, May 8-9. What was once a grand celebration in the United States is essentially disregarded—because Americans must not be allowed to say, as they said then, “War Never Again!! No More War!!”

Yesterday, President Donald Trump proclaimed: “ I am pleased to announce that there will be a THREE DAY CEASEFIRE (May 9th, 10th, and 11th) in the War between Russia and Ukraine. The Celebration in Russia is for Victory Day but, likewise, in Ukraine, because they were also a big part and factor of World War II. This Ceasefire will include a suspension of all kinetic activity, and also a prison swap of 1,000 prisoners from each Country. This request was made directly by me, and I very much appreciate its agreement by President Vladimir Putin and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.”

It wasn’t quite that way—which is why it’s a wise idea to read Executive Intelligence Review. Actually this announcement was the result of the April 29 phone discussion between Presidents Trump and Putin, in which Putin proposed to Trump a two-day ceasefire. This time next week, unless his controllers in Britain prevent him from doing so, President Trump will be in China. The Chinese announcement that they would prohibit Chinese companies from capitulating to US sanctions by law, a major display of economic muscle prior to Trump’s visit, is a reminder that any attempt to return to a “unipolar” world is now out of the question.

As Alexander Darchiev, the Russian Ambassador to Washington two days ago on May 7 said, “the high point of our relations during the Great Patriotic War serves as an example and a positive event that undoubtedly contributes to the normalization of our bilateral relations. Again, the process is slow, and world events also have tragic implications, but if Russia and the United States stand together, and if China joins us, I believe we will resolve all issues." On this May 9, in the aftermath of a most successful meeting of the International Peace Coalition, initiated by the Schiller Institute’s Helga Zepp-LaRouche, TLO spokesman Harley Schlanger will discuss how the arc of current history can be shaped by the ideas and principles of a new world security and development architecture, and the week’s events in current history that illustrate that potential.
