Can we, the American people, revert back to sanity before it’s too late? At minimum, the past 25 years of U.S. foreign policy has been a slip-and-slide from one disaster to the next, which has now led the world to the brink of global thermonuclear warfare, with Iran being the fuse to light off such a doomsday scenario. This evil and almost unfathomable level of danger is not a new phenomenon in human history, unfortunately. As Lyndon LaRouche laid out 20 years ago, in an article titled “Strictly Speaking, There Is No Iran Crisis,” the drive for endless warfare in the Middle East is the evolution of the British Empire’s imperial strategy during World War I, where the region was divided into separate blocs according to the script provided in the “Sykes-Picot” Agreements.
LaRouche said, in 2006 “ The targets of ‘The Crisis on the Global Chessboard’ include Russia and China, Russia more immediately. However, the more immediate phase of the British-led game in progress, is the promotion of British Arab Bureau veteran Bernard Lewis’s revival of the global anti-Islam strategy which had been the basis for the creation and perpetuation of that medieval imperialist alliance of the Venetian financier-oligarchy and Norman chivalry, known as ‘The Crusades.’ What is in progress, currently centered in [then-British Prime Minister Tony] Blair’s and Jack Straw’s Liberal Imperialist London, is the creation of that permanent state of warfare and revolution intended to be the organizing principle of a new form of global imperialism, a form currently labeled ‘globalization.’ A global, perpetual religious war against Islam, is the British imperial policy adopted currently, for this purpose, by the Blair allies associated with the U.S. Bush-Cheney regime.”
The “Greater Israel” fanatics and the modern-day Christian crusaders in the United States are pushing for this permanent state of warfare right now, with the continuing role of Tony Blair, Jonathan Powell, and the City of London pulling the strings, as it has always done in the Middle East. As Lyndon LaRouche always did, he provided the solution to such a recipe for disaster. That involves creating a new potential for the region, a way forward to the mutual benefit of all involved, including the participation of Russia, China, and others who may be outside the region, but are trusted, well-meaning partners. The whole region must be rebuilt along the lines of Lyndon LaRouche’s Oasis Plan, from India to the Mediterranean, from the Caucuses to the Gulf. In a 2002 speech he gave to the Zayed Center in Abu Dhabi, LaRouche referred to the Middle East as the crossroads between Europe, Asia, and Africa. Instead of being reduced to petroleum-producing nations, Saudi Arabia, the U.A.E., Iran, Iraq, Yemen, Jordan, and other nations should use their oil as a trade-in for advanced scientific and technological development, including high-speed rail corridors, water desalination, nuclear power, and advanced cities to be developed across the region.
That, in essence, is a return to a sane, moral U.S. foreign policy, based on the original outlook of American leaders such as George Washington and John Quincy Adams, who believed that strength meant not conquest, but development. Such a Socratic notion of “Power,” as opposed to “Force,” must become the basis for American policy right now, lest we all destroy ourselves through war, perhaps as early as this year.
